C & N Barns Special Features:

  • Foundations - pier foundations and frost wall foundations.
  • 4' concrete frost wall with footing or 10" concrete piers with footing pressure treated sill plates or beams for piers.
  • Siding - pine shiplap, cedar claps, cedar shingles. These would be the first choices but certainly not the only ones.
  • Roofs are pitched and gambrel.
  • Floors - concrete, rubber pavers, asphalt , this is where the rubber mats for the stalls should come in.
  • 2 x 4 or 2x6 studding at 16" centers.
  • 2 x 4 horizontal letin nailers for pine shiplap siding.
  • Sidings to include pine shiplap, cedar claps, cedar shingles or anything to match an existing building, (the first three would be typical).
  • All the plywood for walls, loft or roof is fir cdx, no osb or southern yellow pine which are cheaper alternatives.
  • Floor joists are 2 x 10 at 16" centers (for lofts).
  • Roof framing is dictated by local codes but are also 16" on center.
  • Typical roofing is Tamko architectural shingles but again we can match an existing building.
  • Continuous soffit and ridge vents.
  • Doors are custom built usually sliders with or without glass.
  • Doors are built with 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 frame, milled from a larger piece to ensure a higher quality or lumber( on a 2 x 4 frame we rip down 2 x 12s and use the straight grain as opposed to a regular 2 x 4 that has no straight grain thus making for a door that is more prone to warping.
  • Interior grills and gates are custom built by an excellent craftsman and then powder coated with a variety of colors.
  • Partitions and fronts are set into galvanized channel for easy removal, enlarge for foaling stall, etc.
  • All interior grills and gates are applied with stainless steel screws.
  • Center matched 2 x 8 for kickwalls with pine or grills above.
  • Cupolas are custom built and designed in house.
